Introduction
AIR QUALITY LEGISLATIONS
The rules applicable to the protection of the atmosphere may seem complex as they are numerous and differ depending on the sector they apply to:
Outdoor ambient air (the term "immission" is sometimes used),
Air emitted by certain industrial installations (energy production, automobiles, etc.). In this case, the term "emission" is regularly used,
Atmosphere in workplaces,
Indoor air in public or private enclosed spaces (a sector not necessarily covered by regulation).
Depending on the nature of the pollution and its dispersion over a geographical scale of greater or lesser magnitude, different spatial scales must be considered for the application of regulation.
For each sector, study area, and time scale, different threshold values must be met for a chemical compound based on the population's exposure risk: chronic pollution (long-term) or acute pollution (short-term).
